PURPOSE:
The Area Agency on Aging, Region 8 serves 20 tribal governments in Arizona. By subcontracting with tribal senior centers, ITCA AAA:
- Administers Older Americans Act Title III programs for tribal governments in Arizona (funded through the Arizona Department of Economic Security, Aging and Adult Administration).
- Provides technical assistance to Older Americans Act, Title VI programs for tribal governments in Arizona (funded through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services).
- Develops delivery systems and staff training for Home and Community Based Services thought the Elder Care Initiative grant from the Indian Health Service.
- Develops program and fiscal reporting systems for program monitoring, evaluation, and providing technical assistance to tribes in program planning, development, and management.
- Assists tribes with staff training and carries out research in the areas that affect the welfare of the Indian elderly.
- Ensures that rural, low income Indians are provided outreach and services.
- Promotes advocacy efforts at the local, state, and federal level.
