"Weaving
WIC Into Our Traditional Families" is sponsored by the National
Indian and Native American WIC Coalition (NINAWC) and the United
States Department of Agriculture, Food and Nutrition Service. This
year's conference is being hosted by the Inter Tribal Council of
Arizona, Inc. and the Navajo Nation.
The goals
and objectives of the conference are:
- To improve
compliance with USDA regulations and policies in the unique environments
of tribal WIC programs
- Program participants will increase knowledge
of USDA regulations and policies in areas applicable
to the staff person
- Program participants will gain new methods
and resources for implementing USDA regulations
and policies in tribal environments
- To improve
the quality and effectiveness of nutrition and breastfeeding services
- Program participants will increase knowledge
in the area of nutrition and breastfeeding particularly
as related to working with American Indian people
- Program participants will use new resources
and methods for providing nutrition and breastfeeding
counseling to American Indian populations that are shared by other
tribal programs.
- Program participants will be able to identify
new approaches, resources and methods for providing
effective nutrition and breastfeeding services to the American
Indian population
- To provide
a forum for bringing forth and addressing issues unique to tribal
WIC programs.
- Program participants will identify issues
facing tribal WIC programs to USDA.
- Program participants will have the opportunity
to listen to USDA responses to these issues.

Attend:
This conference is designed for tribal WIC program directors, nutritionists,
paraprofessional staff and vendor staff.
